“Absolutely hilarious!” CSN student Shelley Fisher can make people laugh.
“Comedy is like a puppy, it chooses you. When you think so differently than the rest of the world you need a crutch for that process of assimilation and analogy, so you blame it on and take it out on comedy. Or get a script for Prozac. I tried both; comedy is much easier to swallow!” Fisher explained.
Co-staring as Meg in the CSN play “Actor’s Nightmare,” Fisher is showcasing her comedic talent.
“That was momentous for me because I actually bolded out to ‘work the crowd’ and talk to the audience. To my surprise, it’s just like when I ride the bus,” Fisher said.
Last spring, she put her skills in action when she performed in “Madwoman of Chaillot” in the Horn Theatre as Constance: a sarcastic fun-loving character.
CSN student Kendall Allen worked with Fisher on the One Act plays performed in the Horn Theatre last spring.
“Working with Shelly on stage was a blast. She was the type of person that liked to get things right, almost perfectly, so she would always say the lines that were written and rarely deviate. She also gave advice on how she thought we could make the scenes even funnier,” Allen said.
Fisher recently tried starting a club at CSN for what she calls “Shoestring Bling”. It is a lifestyle that according to Fisher allows you to “Live a Versace life on a Salvation Army budget!” Collaborating with some CSN video department students, she has been working on acquiring a local television spot for her show idea of the same title.
Julius Maxwell, an associate of Fisher’s who worked on the preproduction of her show, gave some insight as to his experience working with her. “She was professional, but knew how to have a good time. She kept me smiling,” Maxwell said.
Student by day, comedian by night, Fisher is an excellent model of the exemplary talent that CSN students exhibit. Maybe one day when she’s a famous comedian, you might be able to say you went to college with her!
