With summer classes quickly approaching, financial aid paperwork for summer is due July 31, 2013. There is important information to know when signing up for summer semester.
According to College of Southern Nevada’s Fact in Brief, approximately 30 percent of the students received financial aid during the 2008-2009 school year.
According to Hermin Piedra, a financial-aid representative at CSN, as of April 2013 students taking summer courses will have to pay for the classes out of their own pockets.
Before April 2013 students used to be able to enroll in a payment plan if they were taking six or more classes over the summer, but due to recent changes this is no longer available to student.
“Because summer semester is so short … they actually want to make sure the student earns the funding before they actually give it to them,” Piedra said.
“It makes me feel devastated in a way … it’s just a really big inconvenience for a student,” said Alma Salas, a CSN student studying to get her associate of business degree.
Some students may need to start saving now if they want to take classes over the summer.
If you want more information on the process of receiving financial aid or on summer classes, you may go to the Student Financial Services offices located on the Charleston, Cheyenne and Henderson campuses.
