College of Southern Nevada offers internships as part of degree programs. Internships provide students real-work work experience and an opportunity to craft and hone their professional skills.
Michele Fogg, internship coordinator for the communication department at CSN, says, “It’s one thing to read and be taught about what goes on at a radio station; it’s an entirely different thing to be there and experience it firsthand.”
“My internship experience at Power 88 was a wonderful opportunity to really learn about the radio industry,” says Maya Dendy, CSN student. KCEP Power 88.1 FM radio station is one of the offerings in the internship program.
Tinete Williams, CSN student, did her internship during summer 2013. “I got to learn new things and experience a side of journalism and communication I’ve never got to experience before.”
To intern, as stated on CSN’s communication and journalism page, students must submit a cover letter and resume to the businesses who offer internships for our students. Once students interview and receive permission to intern, students must enroll in the internship three-credit course. Internships require 150 hours of work and students receive letter grades for performance.
