Communications Seminar at CSN

By Rodrigo Vazquez

The Association of Students in Communication is putting on its 12th Annual Degrees of Communication Seminar Nov. 10, 2012 at the College of Southern Nevada’s Charleston campus.

The event put forth by ASC members, in collaboration with the communication department, will showcase talented professionals from the field in addition to discussions about career opportunities for students.

The seminar will host a variety of speakers including: Rikki Cheese, news anchor for KTNV TV; Shawn Tempesta, host of “The Morning Blend”; Brian Nettles, owner of Nettles Law Firm; and Andrew Kiraly, editor of “Desert Companion”.

ASC is one of the largest student-run organizations at the College of Sothern Nevada, and has been conducting the seminars for over a decade. This year’s seminar will differ from past years, focusing on a much larger demographic.

“We wanted the group to focus on a diverse panel this year. Diverse so that students can learn from all different areas” says Shellie Keller, ASC advisor. “The Seminar offers information about different degrees in communication and internship opportunities.”

Brad Neff, president of ASC, says, “The number one thing that companies look for when hiring new employees is strong interpersonal communication skills and communication skills in general. You will be able to hear people from different career fields speak on how a degree in communication or just strong communication skills can benefit you in the professional world.”
