Spring Career Fair Connects Students with Employers

College of Southern Nevada’s Spring Career Fair brought opportunities to students as they connected with recruiters from 38 companies.

“The purpose of a career fair is three-fold,” said Dr. Kelly Wuest, director of ReEntry at CSN. “First, there is networking; second is finding students jobs for the long-term as well as summer employment; and third is finding career employment.”

“We can get as many as 600 students or as little as 250,” said Wuest, depending on time and location of the event. Four events are held per year. Two are held at Cheyenne campus due to higher unemployment rate in the area and increased traffic.

Every event varies on the number of employers present. The employers must meet two criteria to have a booth at the Career Fair. They must have available jobs and provide opportunities appropriate for students.

“Coca-Cola caught my eye, in particular, as well as Banfield Pet Hospital,” said Arianna Howard, a CSN student who isn’t looking for any job in particular. She just wants something to earn money and make her mom happy.

Another employer at the event was Banfield Pet Hospital. “All positions are available,” said Sofia Dutton, practice manager for Banfield Pet Hospital. Some jobs are perfect for students while others require further training. Students may be interested in the receptionist or assistant positions, she said.
